The origin of Raiffeisen Bank Kosovo dates back to an SME lending project- Kosovo Business Finance Fund (KBFF) funded by USAID (United States Agency for International Development) that was established shortly after the war in Kosovo. The project was later transformed into a bank, namely the American Bank of Kosovo (ABK), which received its license and commenced banking activities in November 2001. In December 2002 Raiffeisen International bought 76 percent of the shares from USAID. May 2003 was the date when Raiffeisen International re- branded its new subsidiary to Raiffeisen Bank Kosovo J.S.C. While in July 2003 Raiffeisen International bought the remaining 24 percent of the shares from the USAID and now owns 100 percent of Raiffeisen Bank.
The bank is today the market leader in SME financing in Kosovo.
